The Western gray squirrel, also known as the silver-gray squirrel, the California gray squirrel, the Oregon gray squirrel, the Columbian gray squirrel or the banner tail.

The Western gray squirrel is mainly found in California and central Washington, as well as in Baja California.

As with other squirrels, this species has four toes in the front feet and five on the back feet. Their mass is usually varying between 350 and 1000 grams, with a total body length of 43 to 61 cm.
